VIDEO: A Dunbar High School Football Coach Pulls His Team off the Field, Forfeits Game and Blames Racist Slurs.
The Washington Post is reporting that Coach Craig Jefferies of Dunbar pulled his players off the field last night in the midst of racial slurs and taunts. Dunbar was leading 14-8 over Fort Hill in Cumberland when Jefferies pulled his boys.
"They were trying to upset us, calling my guys the N-word. I had one guy in tears. I had to take him off the field," Jefferies said, adding that as he walked with his team to the locker room he was verbally accosted with slurs. He said the team was forced to stay in the locker room for 30 minutes while police established a secure path for the team to board its buses.
An ugly scene and some seriously bad publicity for the folks in Cumberland. There have been more problems at high school football games than I can ever remember recently and this one takes the cake. Every single ignorant fan that uttered those slurs, which were directed at boys ages 16-18, should be banned from ever attending any school function. And maybe they should have been thrown in jail. This kind of racist, inhuman behavior shouldn't be tolerated anywhere. And at a high school football game, no way.
