VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- Police said a 13-year-old female student at Warner Christian Academy was running along S. Ridgewood Avenue around 7 a.m. Tuesday when a man reached and grabbed the girl and told her to get into his car.

The victim was running with her coach and several others runners on the school's cross country team when she ran ahead and turned onto Wilder Boulevard. Police said as the girl approached Palmetto, she saw a dark colored car stopped on the north side of the grass.

As she neared the car, she saw a black male who yelled “do you run” out to her. The victim told police she ignored the man and kept running and he yelled for her to give him her number.

The victim said “No.” Police said the man crossed the street and told the girl to get in his car. He then reached out and grabbed her shirt.

The victim was able to pull away and run from the man. Police said the man got in his car and drove away towards Ridgewood.

The girl waited for her coach to tell him what had happened. She was not injured during the incident.

Police are looking for man who is described as a light skinned black male, 5’8” tall around 160 pounds. The victim described him having short afro hair wearing a striped shirt.

Daytona Beach Police are treating the case as an attempted abduction.
