Lou Pearlman went from boy-band millionaire to federal prisoner during a sentencing hearing in Orlando on Wednesday morning.

Pearlman was sentenced to 25 years in prison on fraud and conspiracy charges in connection with a decades-long investment scam that defrauded banks and investors out of as much as $300 million.

The judge offered Pearlman a chance to reduce his sentence by one month for every $1 million he returns to investors.

"Nobody cares about your stupid CDs. We want our money," an investor said outside the courthouse.

It was an emotional exchange between an investor who lost money to Pearlman and a man who enlisted him to manage his son's band from jail.

Before the sentencing hearing, the fallen boy-band mogul told the judge, "I'm truly sorry to those I victimized. I'm working hard to recover whatever money I can. I'm truly sorry. I apologize for what happened."

The judge said his priority is getting money back to the friends, families and retirees bilked out of $200 million.

Victim Ted Granowski wept as he spoke in court.

"This hasn't really affected me. It hurt my grandchildren. That money was their college education ... it's gone," Granowski said.

Mary Walters lost $175,000 and said she doesn't like the idea.

"Even if he gives money back, he should be put in jail and kept in jail until he dies," Walters said.

Federal prosecutors wouldn't say if they found any hidden money. The sentence gives Pearlman the chance to pay investors back, but will he?

"I don't know. Time will only tell on that. The judge gave Mr. Pearlman every incentive to do that," Assistant U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg said.

Several investors demanded to know why Pearlman continued to stay in the good graces of state and local politicians when he was under a growing cloud of suspicion. He'll return to court in July as the process of trying to recover his assets continues.

While the feds look for assets Pearlman may have hidden illegally, there's also a bankruptcy trustee trying to turn what's left of Pearlman's legitimate assets into cash.
