If you want to blow an entire transformer all you need to do is find an air conditioning compressor outside and make a connection between + and - and it'll blow the transformer if you can maintain the connection, which requires a little bit of know how. 

Hint, the AC must be taken off its primary breaker and it helps to remove the 100 or 200 amp breaker at the breaker box, which will cause some arcing, but nothing that'll prevent you from accomplishing what you wish. If those two breakers are removed, can you say, "bye bye transformer?"

One blew a mile away and it sounded and felt as if a 300 lb guy fell off a ladder in the room above mine and hit the floor at full force.
