My name is Alma Stankovic, and I am the La Raza Secretary. Originally, I am from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but I have lived and grown up in Germany for 7 years. My family and I moved to Los Angeles in 1999, where I have lived since. I graduated from UCLA with a Major in Political Science and a Minor in German. I am currently a J.D./M.A. in International Relations double degree student at USC. Last summer, I interned with the HIV & AIDS Legal Service Alliance, Inc., a public interest organization focusing on helping L.A. residents who are low-income and have HIV or AIDS.

As the La Raza Secretary, I am responsible for informing members of meetings and announcements through our newsletter, for filing and organizing career opportunities, and for conducting the elections for the new board in spring. I am also the webmistress of La Raza’s webpage and am responsible for keeping things up to date on here. I am hoping to make our site as detailed as possible, so look out for new updates on a regular basis.

I'm new to this forum, and I'm new to bed bugs. I'm really hoping someone can help me with some "home made" tips until the pest control guy with the dog comes.

I think I may have a small infestation (haven't seen black marks on my sheets yet), but I think I saw a bug fall either out of my hair or out of my couch. I have read, here and elsewhere, that the bed bugs usually don't go into hair unless it's things like a weave - and I have really thin, white-girl hair, so I hope it wasn't in my hair (I washed it out three times immediately, so they're probably gone anyway, right?)

I was so freaked out when I suddenly saw a bug crawling on me that I squashed and flushed it without properly examining it. It was sort of opal/translucent colored, with a little dark spot at it's tail.

I also believe I have bites. I have links to two pictures, one and two. (Sorry for the unshaved legs - I shaved the bottom half, but as the hair there started growing back, I can't tell between itching from the stubble and possible other itching, so I refuse to shave the rest.) I checked for pictures online, and most people seem to have rather large spots. Mine are these little small, very red ones. They're in clusters, not really in a line and strewn across my upper thighs. I do have sensitive skin, though, so maybe I am just freaking myself out b/c I found out I have been in a bed bug infested place recently?

I tried looking online for help, but there is so much information, I just don't know what's what anymore. This website and forum seem to have information from folks who actually dealt with the problem, so I would appreciate if anyone can help me ID if I have bed bugs and give me advice on what to do until the pest control guy comes (which is isn't for another 5 days!). I am going to freak myself into a heart attack if I don't have things to do in the mean time.
