Deputies Say Toddler Beaten By Her Mother's Boyfriend

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The 2-year-old girl who deputies said was beaten by her mother’s boyfriend last week was listed in critical but stable condition.

The incident happened last Thursday at 24 Dragon Trail.

Deputies said a woman left her three children with her live-in boyfriend, 23-year-old Marcus Young. They said when she came back, she found her children severely beaten. Investigators said that when she tried to take them to the hospital, Young beat her as well.

Two of the children, 3 years old and 7 years old, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. However, the 2-year-old girl was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

The lead investigator in the case told FOX Carolina on Sunday that the toddler suffered injuries to her spleen and is being monitored at the hospital.

Deputies said Young was arrested last Friday morning in a wooded area between Whitmire and Clinton. He was charged with three counts of assault and battery with intent to kill and one count of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

Young was being held without bail in a Laurens County jail.
