Hydrogen is the solid concept, though mining volacnoes is dubious.  Friends of mine living in subdivisions adjacent to the geothermal wells in south Puna say the smell is constant-- like rotten eggs.  But the icelander self-standing and creating hydrogen stations are cool.  Also, podblanc has several videos about both hydrogen-powered vehicles and simple compressed-air lightweight cars which work NOW.  The tanks are fiber carbon, so if ruptured, they do not violently explode and cause injury.  i find the compressed air vehicles to be even more compelling---which reminds me--there is a great vid out there about this French engineer, his son and their company which I must import into podblanc.
